My friend Vicki over at Bubbles Babbles has been have a terrible time with people leaving negative remarks for her lately. I sent her this story and just wanted to share it with anyone else out there who might be interested . . .
I grew up in the church - almost literally! Both of my grandfathers were preachers and if you think being a PK (preacher's kid) is tough - try being raised by two of them that stayed active in the church! My mother was the church secretary for 38 years (she liked to say that she trained 9 pastors during her tenure) and my dad did everything from janitorial duties to keeping the buses running to teaching Sunday school and serving on the church board. When I got my first car, there was an extra key on the ring . . . a key to the church building since I was there all the time!
Anyway, we had a new neighbor move in right behind our property. Now mind you, we had been at this same location for 35 years; owned the entire frontage of a city block plus three lots deep and had never had any problems with anyone in the neighborhood. Well, this guy started complaining about us . . . every little thing. It really got to the point of being ridiculous!
The final straw was that he demanded we put up a brick wall between our parking lot and his property . . . took it to the city and everything. The city compromised and allowed us to put up an 8 foot privacy fence instead of a brick wall; and of course, the project was headed by my dad. To make sure everything was done to the letter of the law, we had the city assessor come out and mark out the property lines so we would make sure that the fence was where it was supposed to be.
Well, we started putting up the fence and the guy had a fit. It seems that he had planted a row of very expense trees; unfortunately, he had claimed about 8 feet of our property and had planted the trees on what ended up being OUR side of the fence line. He was livid. Unfortunately, it was my dad that he decided to take up with . . . .
My dad let him rant and rave for a few minutes then turned and said to him . . .
"Sir, as you know, I am a Christian, and I believe in what the Good Book says. One of the things it says is that we are to turn the other cheek. Well, sir, YOU'VE USED ALL FOUR OF MINE, WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO NOW?"
Just remember that you are loved and appreciated by the people who count . . . forget about the other bozos out there!
Take care and God Bless!!!!
